Sri Varaha Swami Temple is among the most ancient shrines on Tirumala, dedicated to Lord Varaha — the boar avatar of Vishnu who rescued the Earth from the demon Hiranyaksha. According to tradition, Varaha Swami is the owner of Tirumala and Lord Venkateswara is a guest on His land. Devotees must first take His permission before proceeding to the main temple — making this a mandatory first stop for every pilgrim. The idol of Lord Varaha holding Goddess Bhudevi (Earth) in His arms is exquisitely carved and deeply moving.

Akasa Ganga is a perennial sacred spring on Tirumala, located about 3 km from the main temple on the northern side of the hill. According to legend, the water flows from the feet of Lord Venkateswara Himself — hence its sanctity. This spring is the source of water used for the Lord's daily ceremonial bath (abhishekam) in the sanctum. Pilgrims trek to this spot for a sacred bath and to experience the cool mountain spring in its tranquil forest setting.

Papavinasam Teertham is a sacred waterfall and bathing ghat situated along the ghat road leading up to Tirumala. The name literally means "the one that destroys sins." Devotees who climb to Tirumala via the traditional footpath (Alipiri to Tirumala, about 9 km) pass this teertham and take a sacred bath here. The waterfall is especially beautiful after the monsoon rains and the cool, clear mountain water is considered deeply purifying.
